About Me

My photo
I am retired and like to travel by motor home across the United States and Canada. In the winter I hope to spend more time with my WIN (Wandering Individual Network) friends in the California and Arizona desert. I know my trip reports are having too many details, but I am writing them for myself, if anybody else enjoys them, that is fine too.

Oregon Coast 2018

July 31, 2018.
We arrived at the Elks RV Park in Tillamook at about 9:30 AM.
Our first stop in town was the Cheese Factory. It is called now the Tillamook Creamery and has changed a lot.

The viewing area is larger and the windows are clear glass and besides the windows are explanations of what is happening on the factory floor.

Attaching the milking machine to a cow can be practiced by visitors.

There is a giant store now.

We had of course ice cream. Buying ice cream has been made easy. They have a fantastic system.
The outdoor seating place is now covered.

At 1:30 PM we drove to Wheeler and rode the rails with the Rail Riders at 3:00 PM. It is a shorter ride than in Bay City, but they are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

At the end of the ride the crew turned the cars around and we headed back.

I believe Nicolette and Jacob liked the ride.

We left Tillamook later because I wanted to see Christian Gurling, the curator of the Tillamook Air Museum.
He is getting fuselage sections of a Convair 880 airplane and I am interested in the progress.
The hangar was the home of six blimps during World War II. They have a small one on display.

There are only a few of the airplanes left.
After talking to him we took a fast tour of the museum and then left at 11:00 AM for Newport.
We ate lunch and then went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport.

Late afternoon we walked at the Newport Waterfront.

August 2, 2018.
Today we are at the Bandon By The Sea RV Park in Bandon. We came early and had to wait a while until someone left.

Our first stop in town was Old Town and the waterfront. Nicolette was interested in the paintings school students displayed at the boardwalk.

This fish is made with plastic and other refuse found in the ocean.

We also enjoyed free samples at the Cranberry and chocolate store. Then Nicolette and I had fish and chips, and Jacob chicken strips at a waterfront restaurant.

Then we walked on the beach.

After a short rest in the motorhome we went to the West Coast Game Park.

August 3, 2018.

The plan was to stop at Crescent City, California, for the day and night and go home on Saturday.
I have never spent much time there.
The children have been many times there and preferred to go home.
So we went home.
It was a wonderful trip, even with the changes I had to make with the itinerary.
