This was another beautiful day.
Shari, a new member, and I walked in the morning to
Shacks Fifth Avenue, otherwise called Rodeo Drive.
She wanted to see this shopping area. We bought only
chocolate.
I took her through the poor neighborhood. We were lucky
and saw only friendly dogs.
On Rodeo Drive are some big, beautiful stores, like the
tile store. The front wall of the building is decorated with some beautiful
tiles. But like most of Mexico, when things are new they are in wonderful
shape. The upkeep is a different story. On the right side of the front wall are
some tiles missing, it takes a long time till they will be replaced.
On the way home, we walked passed the horse rental place.
They also give carriage rides and rides on the beach.
At 3:00 PM the motorhome washing and waxing crew came and
beautified the motorhome. Six people spent about an hour on my home.
They were not able to remove some of the sticky material
which came from the tape used to mark the outlines of the decals.
February 27, 2018.
This was a windy day. We expected rain but, in the
afternoon, only dark clouds appeared.
At 3:30 PM we left for the La Casa Del Capitan restaurant. We have been there before.
It is a great restaurant and it has the best view of the
town.
In the evening some of the group went to the cinema in
town to see a movie with English sound and Spanish subtitles.
Since we cannot bring vegetables and some kind of meat back to the states, my refrigerator is almost empty, and it was a good time to defrost the refrigerator.
Vendors were walking up and down the street selling ice cream, nuts, pineapple slices, and cotton candy.
The car is attached to the motorhome; I am ready to roll north. Eight of us are leaving tomorrow morning. Three will be staying for a while.
February 28, 2018.
It rained a bit last night. The sky was blue in the morning.
Since we had nothing planned today, I did two lots of
laundry. Then I walked to the Coppel Department store, looking for small
bathroom towels. They had only the regular 53-inch long towels. I bought the
43-inch towels years ago and cannot find them anymore,
even on the Internet.
The store is very modern and clean.
Across the street is Super Ley. I had to buy some bakery
goods. It is time we leave Mexico. I am gaining weight.
On the way home, I observed this concrete pumper. The
name on the side of the machine is Putzmeister, a good Mexican name.
In the evening we had a sunset party with a full moon.
Jan had made a big pot of thick soup. The hot soup was
the right stuff for a cold evening. Besides the soup there was also dips and
chips and other food.
As soon as the sun goes down the temperature follows.
Dancing warmed us up.
March 1, 2018.
This morning I went for a long walk.
Two days ago, Frosty and Pat, my passengers, shared a
desert with me at Frenchy’s Bar and Grill. They had watched part of the Winter
Olympics there.
It is a nice place; a bit expensive.
The La Casa del Capitan restaurant is located on the
highest point of Puerto Penasco. At 170 feet it offers a wonderful view of the
city. The historic lighthouse is located next door.
I found a shortcut from the lighthouse to El Malecon
shopping center. A construction worker told me about it. I had to sneak through
somebody’s backyard.
I met three tired dogs. They were sleeping on the
sidewalk and not interested in attacking me.
I walked the promenade where tonight and the next two
days loud music keeps many people awake. Workers were sweeping the sand from
the walk.
I still have no answer to my question whether the city
built the parts of the wall with screens for the musicians or whether the
musicians saw the screens and shine their flashing lights on them.
When I got home I cooked the shrimp and had some of them
with cocktail sauce. It was a treat.
In the evening we went to Southside Jillz, a bar and
restaurant. The place is near the beach and we walked there.
March 2, 2018.
I was waiting all day for an artist to come and remove a
decal from each side of the motorhome. The decal says: “Liberty Edition” and is
in red, white and blue, just like the rest of the motorhome.
The artist would remove the letters and paint them. Some
of the WINs had him paint animals, airplanes and other scenes on the back or
sides of their motorhomes.
He did not come. While I was waiting I had the car washed
and waxed. It will not be that clean again for a long time.
Since we cannot bring vegetables and some kind of meat back to the states, my refrigerator is almost empty, and it was a good time to defrost the refrigerator.
I also vacuumed the floor of the motorhome.
I walked on the beach for a while. The vendors have to
push their heavy carts on the soft sand. It is not easy.
In the evening we had a campfire and a small potluck.
In the evening we had a campfire and a small potluck.
March 3, 2018.
Today was a picture perfect day. It was warm and very
little wind.
In the morning I walked through mixed neighborhoods.
Among shacks were some beautiful homes.
This home is very modern and large. It has a high fence
around the property and on top of the fence sharp metal flowers for added
security.
This church has no cross on top of the tower, just a
twisted statue. I had to find out what kind of religion uses this symbol. I
young man was entering a side door and I approached him.
It is a Christian Church without a cross. The people who
worship in this church do not use a cross because they believe only criminals
died on the cross and Jesus was not a criminal.
Three large buses from Arizona came to the beach. The
visitors spoke all Spanish.
In the afternoon we walked down town to see the Carnival
parade. I was able to take a picture of the queen.
Vendors were walking up and down the street selling ice cream, nuts, pineapple slices, and cotton candy.
The parade started with a police car in front.
Guys were dressed as girls and girls as boys.
Some of the floats were wonderful.
There were several dancing groups.
The queen and king came by.
There were several bands.
The parade ended at the big fish.
On the way home, we stopped on the sidewalk for a few
minutes and watched this cook prepare meat for dinner.
We decided to walk on the beach and noticed that a stage
had been built this morning. It is spring break and there must be more than
usual noise tonight.
While I was gone the artist had removed the decals. He
better does the painting tomorrow because Monday we are leaving.
March 4, 2018.
In the morning I walked into town and bought two pounds
of large shrimp. Last time I bought the medium size and they were very good.
On the way home I saw this large graffiti on a wall.
I was worried about the artist not showing up. He and his
father finally came at 3:30 PM.
I had already planned on extending the auto and motorhome
insurance. He was finished at 6:39 PM and did a very good job. He actually
added the color white, which makes it a true Liberty Edition.
The motorhome looks great now. The only item which is old
is the strip over the gap between the bottom grey of the motorhome and the
white above it. It appears really bad now with everything else new.
While sitting in front of the motorhome I observed the
woman sitting on the beach with her dog. They were both enjoying the sun and
the blue water.
The car is attached to the motorhome; I am ready to roll north. Eight of us are leaving tomorrow morning. Three will be staying for a while.
