About Me

My photo
I am retired and like to travel by motor home across the United States and Canada. In the winter I hope to spend more time with my WIN (Wandering Individual Network) friends in the California and Arizona desert. I know my trip reports are having too many details, but I am writing them for myself, if anybody else enjoys them, that is fine too.

June 2008

Hello friends and relatives.
Some of you asked what happened to us, actually not much. We are
right now in slow mode because of the price of gasoline.
In March we went with the Shanty Shakers to the Laguna Mountains.
We did some wonderful hiking and enjoyed good food.
In April we went with the Convair Camping Club to Lake Elsinore. From there we took a side trip to the poppy fields in Lancaster. And in May we went with the group to Lake Jennings.

We always have fun with this group.
Right now we should be in Gilette, Wyoming for the Escapade, the
large gathering of the Escapees Camping Club. From there we had planned to go to Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. We postponed this trip.
Instead we left by car for Eureka to see Claudia and family.
We left May 31st and stayed until June the 9th. Nicolette and Jacob
are growing and getting smarter.

We had one day of rain and the rest of the time we had good weather.
One day we went to the Fish Fest in Trinidad. For a small town they
attracted a lot of people.

We left Eureka and took highway 101 South. This is a beautiful scenic
highway, with the giant red woods on both sites of the road.

At Petaluma we crossed over to highway 99, and went South to Modesto.
There we visited Doreen's friend Neal, and his girl friend Terry.
We stayed the night with them.
We got a ride in Neal's 1934 Chevy to Mimi's restaurant. I would have
liked the ride in his Corvette.
Doreen and her husband were good friends with Neil's parents and
they had a lot to reminisce about.

We left Modesto about 6:00 AM and headed for Monterey.
As soon as we came close to the coast the weather was more
agreeable. It had been very hot in Modesto.
In Monterey we went to the wharf and to antique shops. We had a
pleasant walk on the beach.

The drive along the coast in Pacific Grove is one of the most
beautiful experiences. It reminded us of the coast in La Jolla,
only the coast line is longer in Pacific Grove, and there are more
rocks off the shore. The shore road led us to the 17 mile drive.

This drive is also very beautiful, costs $ 9.50 and follows along the ocean on one side and several golf courses, including Pebble Beach Golf Course, on the other side.
We followed highway 1, along the ocean, to Morrow Bay.
The drive was easier in the car, than in the motor home. When we came down the highway in the motor home is was tiring with all the curves along the coast.

Today we drove to Carpenteria, near Santa Barbara. After lunch we went for a walk on the beach. The weather is still fine.

We left at 5:00 AM to make it early through Los Angeles, and it worked. We encountered heavy traffic in the city, but no slow downs.
This was a nice little vacation, but we enjoy it more when we are in the motor home.
In one motel we had people in the next room talking loud until 1:30 AM in the morning.
In another motel a big, fat, bearded guy, had his motel room door open and had the TV going full blast at 12:30 AM.
I got so frustrated and went over and told him to turn the TV down.
We hope all of you have a wonderful summer.
